How to draw a site plan for an irrigation design

What the plan must show

   The area you want watered

   You do not have to draw the whole property. Just outline the part you want watered, for example the lawn behind the house.

2. 2

   The length of every side

   Write the length in metres next to each side of the area. Without dimensions I cannot tell how many sprinklers are needed or where they go.

3. 3

   Obstacles in the area, also measured

   If there are trees, a playground, a pool, a patio or beds in the area, draw them in. Write their size and distance from the edge of the area so the sprinklers do not spray where they should not.

  Where the water source is

  The mains connection, meter pit or well. The main supply line will start there.

  Where you want the controller

  For example in the garage, a utility room or on the house wall. I plan the wiring to the valves from there.

How to do it

• Draw by hand on paper, no scale needed. Just write the dimensions as numbers.
• Measure with a tape measure or a laser distance meter.
• Take a photo of the finished sketch with your phone so all numbers are legible.
• A plan from your house project works too, if you add the obstacles and dimensions.
